The islands are officially open from March to October. Outside of these months, the islands essentially shut down due to the monsoon season.
| Period | Season Type | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| February | Early Opening | Some resorts open. Sea can still be choppy; visibility is moderate. Best for budget travelers. |
| March — May | Shoulder Season | Best Weather. Clear skies, calm water, and the highest underwater visibility (up to 20m+). |
| June — August | Peak Season | Maximum crowds. Accommodation is fully booked. Best time for spotting nesting turtles. |
| September — October | Late Season | Crowds thin out. Great deals on resorts. Weather starts to shift in mid-October. |
| November — January | CLOSED | Monsoon Season. High waves and heavy rain. Most resorts and boat services are suspended. |
If you are visiting for the marine life, visibility is key. The islands are part of a protected marine park, which helps preserve coral reefs and marine biodiversity. The water is warmest (around 30°C) and clearest during the mid-year.
Best Visibility: April to August (up to 20–30 meters).
Turtle Season: Nesting usually peaks between June and August.
Whale Shark Sightings: While rare, sightings are most common around April and May near Tokong Laut (Temple of the Sea).
